A Closer Look at What's in Your Food: Detox is a Must

Sometimes the weirdest thoughts happen to you when you’re in the shower, and yesterday I had one of those thoughts that made me  say “hmmm, now why I am just thinking of this?”   

The question that popped in head as soap is running into my eyes was , how come we don’t keep ourselves just as clean on the inside as we do on the outside?   I mean there has to be  years of little left over meals that I've had right? Not to mention all the new pollutants in our ever so changing environment.

I know after watching that some of you are utterly disgusted, I know I was and its part of the reason why I changed my whole diet. More on that in another post.  So, I’m glad that McDonald’s is no longer using this method but what about the YEARS of Mickey D’s that we’ve eaten?   

I remember begging my grandfather for a Happy Meal when I was younger because in my world that was like happiness in a box! But seriously think about it, I’m 31 years old, how much of that ammonium-what-ever have I absorbed into my body? How much have YOU taken in? What are the side effects of this and how do I get rid of whatever is left? 

There are too many questions that haven’t been asked or answered.   What I do know, however, is that there are ways to get rid of the pink sludge and other toxins in your body that store fat and keep you chunky. These toxins also lead to acne, bloating, headaches, fatigue, and a whole gamut of other ailments.  

3 Short steps to simple Detoxing and losing weight: Straight to the point with NO chaser!


Step #1

Put the remote down, GET UP, and  move your ass! Blunt, but true and necessary. Now I know some of you are like this isn't a real tip, I know this already. My question is how consistent have you been? Exercise helps to loosen all the dirt, sludge, toxins, and left over whatever that is literally stuck inside your body.

It helps to flush out all that crap, plus It helps with stress and believe it or not gives you a sense of certainty in your life. This doesn't have to be complicated either, carve out 20 minutes of time for  YOU and make it a MUST for yourself! If You’re not doing this it’s because you really don’t want to. You’re being a wussy.  


Step #2

Stop eating fast food and unhealthy things you know you should NOT have. Easier said that done I know, but stop and ask yourself a question. If you’re serious about  dropping several pounds and improving your health, what will be the cost to YOU if you don’t follow through? What types of things will change? What will stay the same, or  what will get worse?  Use this as motivation to say “ NO!” to the crap  or to “YES!” to the Pilates class on Saturday afternoons.  


Step #3

Get a jump start on steps 1 and 2 by using a good detox system.  I can hear all of you know saying why didn't I start with step 3. Well because I really believe the he first two steps are important not only when it comes to physical health, but to emotional and psychological health. They are things we should do anyway, it when we get away from the basics that things start to slip.

Boredom is Excitement in Reverse!


Just wanted to share some of what I’m listening to lately. Usually when I'm bored I listen to music to try and change my state of mind, my music collection (or my soundtrack to life as I call it) has everything from Godsmack to Nicki  Minaj, old school R& B, and I’m pretty sure there’s some Connie Francis in there too! LOL don’t’ judge, LISTEN and be inspired! Boredom is excitement in reverse, stay excited >>>Excitement leads to inspiration and inspiration leads to self-empowerment.


I try not to judge when it comes to music which is really hard sometimes.  I listen to the lyrics and try to understand concepts and how they may fit  into my life.  Check out this video by The Secret State.

What the Hell is "A Beautiful Mess"


So, I thought I would take the time to explain the title of this Blog, of  course most people would assume that it has something to do with the authoress (That would be me) but it’s really an analogy for the struggles of daily life that we face as well how the society we live in is structured. Keep reading and you’ll understand.


Yesterday I had the fortunate time to spend with a special friend of mine, who is one fourth of the awesome Hip Hop group Clear Soul Forces, and inevitably we have interesting discussion about life, music, and few life lessons.  I asked him a simple question about how to be true to yourself given the times that we live in and all of the chaos that seems to be penetrating all parts of this world. What followed was a passionate and fruitful conversation about  HOW to do that. I’m big on the HOW when it comes to problem solving, only because if you don’t know  what actions  you need to take, you just stay suck. Anyway, he basically summed it up and  said “You have to become Neo” and of course I’m like what the hell is that supposed to mean? Taking a reference from the movie the Matrix,  of course I figured out that it means you  as an individual have to know yourself and be able to navigate  through this Beautiful Mess of a world. IF YOU DON’T, I PROMISE YOU WILL get sucked into the fallacy of the TRUTH. Truth lies within, it’s up to you to find out 1. How to access it and 2. how to use is to  grow, share, and learn. “ Expand by Demand” is one of my personal mantras, because I demand that I always strive to better myself. If you’re not constantly improving yourself then you are standing still, NOT progressing and watching everything move by trying to figure out what to do.  

I run into people all the time at work (and not just clients), at school, or even family members who say they want to do better with this or that in their life, but I often wonder if they know what it takes or are the blindly following “The Lotta People” as my friend  Emile says.  I genuinely feel that they do want to change, but I just don’t think they know HOW to do that, especially when the odds are stacked against you.  What I mean by that is success is attainable but you have to know how to navigate through all the systems in this country.  Let’s see there the health care system,  the financial system, school systems, and oh I can’t forget the lovely social welfare system, but all of them are flawed. Don’t get sucked into the system  and don’t follow the “Lotta People”.   Learn to question and decide for yourself, but mostly importantly learn to work within the system. EMPOWER YOURSELF  I know that’s easier said than done, but I am always the eternal optimist so check out the Fela Kuti video below.





I’m big on music and not just what they play on the radio! The title of this song is “Water Get No Enemy”  and in it the "water" is the Nigerian common people. The Government/Military must not make enemies of the populous, nor disturb their "flow" (endeavors & routines)- as it is dangerous to make an enemy of the country's most essential resource. The people make everything happen . The lyrics are very meaningful, water is an essential element to live and daily living. Even if water causes you  great harm (flood, drowning, etc), you still need it. You still have to navigate through the system of how life operates.

Getting to Know Her


I thought I would make this first post more about me, but this blog will focus on a collective of topics pertaining to anything from Self Empowerment to fashion, and health. And of course there will be a rant or two I'm sure.  I just started blogging and I think I’m becoming addicted to it but  at my regular 9-5 job or, “rat race” as I sometimes refer to it sometimes, I’m a professional problem solver. LOL ok really I’m a Social Worker, but still a professional problem solver. You name it and I can guarantee I’ve seen and heard it all. Reality is right in front of us at any given time and I get to see it up close.  And I’m not one of those Social Workers that remove kids, I actually work to help prevent children going into the system and we work the families to help them do that. That’s why I say I’m a professional problem solver, the problems that citizens from low socioeconomic  situations face runs the gamut and they are not always easily solved. I’ll save my soap box speech and opinions about how we treat other people in this country for another time. However, from time to time I will share self help information, provide resources, and hopefully get some of your brains churning about a few things!
One thing is for sure, as corny as this may sound there is one thing I believe in truly:

The Golden Rule “Treat others the way that you want to be treated”  

 Let’s see what else, oh I have a B.A. in Psychology and wrapping up a Masters degree in counseling.  I’m single, 31 and always captivating J I love books, Barnes & Noble, shoes, make up and all that other girly crap.  I like to shoot & go to the gun range to relieve stress, kickboxing and pool are some of my favs too! My interests are actually pretty varied as you can see. One of my ultimate goals is to go sky diving, so I’ll keep you posted!
